Reps. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter and Mike Collins, both Republicans from Georgia, have taken the lead among the Georgia Congressional Delegation in urging financial support for the Georgia Ports Authority's water resources projects for the fiscal year 2025. They addressed their appeal to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, pressing for adequate funding to meet project objectives.

The delegation's letter calls for funds specifically for a study concerning the deepening and widening of Savannah Harbor, alongside projects related to the Brunswick Harbor Modification and maintenance of both Brunswick and Savannah harbors in terms of width and depth.

"Georgia’s port facilities in Brunswick and Savannah are vital supply chain conduits, job creators, and economic engines for Georgia and the United States," the Members wrote. They emphasized the importance of these ports in driving commerce locally and globally, stressing the need for continued support from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and America’s dredging and maritime construction industry.

The letter further urged the Corps to harness available FY2025 discretionary funding, highlighting the projects' critical nature and pressing need for prioritization and immediate action.

The letter was co-signed by Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, both Democrats from Georgia, and a full roster of Georgia Representatives including Rick Allen and Marjorie Greene, among others.
