Walking into The Arts Center of Hartwell, visitors experience a sense of reverence and anticipation. The gallery is being transformed into a visual narrative of Hartwell’s African-American history. Black-and-white photographs are displayed, each holding stories of resilience, achievement, and community spirit.
"Tables are covered with black-and-white photographs," the press release states, "waiting to be placed in their respective spots on the gallery walls." Yellowed newspaper clippings and handwritten notes add to the historical ambiance.
The exhibit at the Arts Center commemorates Black History Month by showcasing these narratives that echo past achievements and struggles within the community.
