Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter has successfully advanced the Never Again Education Reauthorization Act through the House of Representatives. The bill aims to reauthorize funding and resources for Holocaust education in schools, ensuring students are properly informed about this historical atrocity.
In his prepared remarks, Rep. Carter emphasized the bipartisan nature of the bill, stating, "I am proud to lead this important bipartisan bill with Senator Rosen, and I thank her for her work." The legislation seeks to extend the United States Holocaust Museum's program through Fiscal Year 2030.
Carter highlighted a concerning rise in antisemitism following attacks on October 7th, 2023. He noted that the Anti-Defamation League reported over 10,000 incidents of antisemitism between October 2023 and September 2024. This increase was particularly pronounced on college campuses where antisemitic incidents surged by 321 percent within a year.
He criticized certain universities for not condemning calls for violence against Jewish communities: "Three adults, in a position of power, believed calling for the genocide of Jews would be in line with their school policies." Carter stressed that Jewish students deserve better protection and called for action against hate.
Carter reiterated the importance of learning from history to prevent its repetition: "We must speak out against hate and educate our students on the history of antisemitism to ensure that the horrors of the Holocaust are never repeated."
The act is now headed to President Biden's desk for approval.
