The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared a disaster designation for Georgia counties affected by Tropical Storm Debby, following a request from Representative Earl L. “Buddy” Carter. This announcement includes all 15 counties in Georgia’s First Congressional District.

Tropical Storm Debby caused significant damage with heavy rain and wind, leading to substantial property destruction and crop losses for farmers in the region. The USDA's Secretarial disaster designation allows farm operators in both primary and contiguous counties to access emergency loan assistance through the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

"America relies on our growers; but right now, growers are relying on us," said Rep. Carter. "Agriculture is the #1 industry in the state of Georgia, and the losses we’ve experienced this hurricane season are going to impact not just our local economy, but the national food supply chain. This funding opportunity is a lifeline for the farmers and growers whose crops were wiped out during Tropical Storm Debby, and I will continue to ensure our district has the resources it needs to fully recover."

Farmers in eligible areas have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for these emergency loans. Each application is evaluated individually by FSA based on production losses and other factors like repayment ability.

For those interested in applying for assistance, contacting your local FSA office is advised.
