Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter recently visited Wayne, Pierce, Ware, and Glynn counties to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Helene and receive updates on recovery efforts in Georgia's First Congressional District. "Thank you to the brave first responders, EMA employees, linemen, and everyone who is stepping up to keep Georgia’s First Congressional District safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene," said Rep. Carter. He acknowledged the significant impact on local growers and farmers and expressed his condolences for those affected by the destruction.

Carter emphasized the need for Congress to quickly approve funding to aid in community recovery efforts and stated his readiness to return to Washington to advocate for this cause.

During his visit, Carter met with various Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs) across the counties and interacted with families affected by the hurricane. He spent time with the family of Leon Davis, a Blackshear firefighter who died during Hurricane Helene.

Rep. Carter has been coordinating with federal agencies such as FEMA and state officials including Governor Brian Kemp to extend disaster relief measures across all impacted counties in his district. This expansion would allow more areas access to federal funding for recovery initiatives.

Residents from qualifying counties—Appling, Bacon, Chatham, Liberty, Pierce, and Ware—can apply for assistance through DisasterAssistance.gov or via phone.
