ATLANTA (Feb. 12, 2024) — Senate Majority Leader Sen. Steve Gooch (R–Dahlonega) is applauding the passage of Senate Resolution 543, which aims to enhance the protection of America's borders and address the issues of illegal immigration and smuggling. The resolution received strong support from colleagues, including Senate President Pro Tempore John F. Kennedy (R–Macon), Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta), Sen. Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming), Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas), and 24 others.
Sen. Gooch emphasized the importance of this resolution in safeguarding both Georgians and all Americans by strengthening border protections, particularly along the Southern Border. He commended the Georgia Senate for taking a unified stand with Governor Brian P. Kemp and Texas Governor Greg Abbott in the fight to uphold the nation's integrity. Sen. Gooch also highlighted the urgent need to address the trafficking of dangerous drugs like Fentanyl across the Southern border, stating, "Despite the lack of support from President Joe Biden and his federal administration, the Senate remains resolute in its commitment to halt the illegal immigration and smuggling activities that plague our nation."
