Governor Brian P. Kemp has allocated $13.2 million from the American Rescue Plan Act funds to bolster the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council's Victim's Services grant. This move aims to counterbalance federal reductions in aid for victims of violent crime in Georgia, thereby sustaining essential support networks and services for individuals affected by crime.

According to a press release by the Governor's office, Kemp criticized the federal government for its lack of support. He stated: "Once again, the federal government is failing to deliver on promises made to the people of Georgia. While the Biden administration has made the unfortunate decision to shortchange victims of violent crime, I’m proud that the state is able to step in, fund this vital program, and provide the support these individuals need."

The same press release revealed that despite a surge in crime during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been significant cuts in funds from the Crime Victims Fund, also known as Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds. The remaining $13.2 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for FY 2024 have been allocated to continue supporting nonprofit organizations facing economic hardships due to the pandemic. This additional allocation brings total ARPA funding dedicated to this grant up to $68,237,210 since its inception.

In another statement from Governor Kemp's office, it was reported that this additional funding aids over 200 nonprofits and local entities in Georgia, ensuring crucial services for victims are maintained. These services include support for domestic violence shelters, sexual assault centers, human trafficking programs, child advocacy centers among others.

Earlier this year, according to yet another press release from his office, Kemp signed bills focusing on cracking down on gang activity and safeguarding Georgia's children from violent crime while enhancing community safety. In addition to these measures, he also signed several other bills addressing diverse aspects such as protecting law enforcement employees, increasing penalties for damaging critical infrastructure, supporting motor vehicle crime prevention, honoring first responders, combating the trade of stolen materials, and safeguarding public safety and search and rescue animals.
