Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter has announced that Missy Jarrott will be his guest at President Trump's first joint address to Congress of his second term. Missy Jarrott, a resident of the First District, lost her son to fentanyl poisoning after unsuccessful attempts to secure a Veteran's Affairs (VA) appointment.
Missy Jarrott has since dedicated herself to advocating for VA reforms and raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. Rep. Carter expressed his support for her efforts, stating, "I’m proud to be joined by First District resident Missy Jarrott, who has given the pain of losing her son, Landon, a purpose through advocating for necessary reforms to the VA and raising awareness about the dangers of illicit fentanyl poisoning."
Carter also emphasized the importance of securing borders as part of addressing the epidemic: "We are battling an epidemic in this country, and President Trump’s emphasis on securing our border is an important step towards addressing it and saving lives." He further stated his confidence in Secretary Doug Collins' ability to bring change as head of the VA.
Missy Jarrott expressed her commitment to continuing her advocacy work: "It is an honor to attend the joint address as a guest of Representative Buddy Carter. Our veterans deserve better, and I am committed to preserving my son, Landon’s legacy by fighting for proper resources for our veterans and an end to the illicit fentanyl epidemic."
