Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter addressed the House Committee on the Budget during a markup session for the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2025. In his opening remarks, Carter emphasized the importance of aligning with former President Trump's agenda, which he claimed was supported by over 77 million voters.
Carter outlined key objectives such as extending Trump's tax cuts, enhancing border security, promoting American energy independence, and eliminating inefficiencies in federal spending. He criticized the Biden-Harris Administration for leaving the country in what he described as a perilous state with a federal debt exceeding $36 trillion.
"Our federal debt is more than $36 trillion," Carter stated. "A bloated bureaucracy that is weaponized against the American people and sends hardworking, American taxpayer dollars to fund woke, radical, DEI nonsense not only in America but around the globe!"
Carter asserted that House Republicans are working closely with Trump to implement policies aimed at reducing waste and fraud while promoting economic growth through extended tax cuts initiated in 2017. He highlighted that these cuts had previously led to job creation and wage increases.
"The impact of President Trump’s tax cuts on our economy have been undeniably beneficial for all Americans," Carter said. He noted significant improvements in employment rates among various demographics and increased wage growth for low-income earners during Trump's presidency.
Addressing border security concerns, Carter criticized what he termed as open-border policies under Biden-Harris, attributing them to a national security crisis exacerbated by fentanyl trafficking. "Last fiscal year, Customs and Border Protection confiscated over 21,000 pounds of fentanyl at our borders," he mentioned.
The budget resolution aims to enhance border security measures to curb drug inflow into communities. Carter concluded by urging support for the bill to promote fiscal responsibility and safety.
"This budget resolution works for America," he stated emphatically.
