Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter, a Republican from Georgia and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials, has expressed concerns over the Environmental Protection Agency's recent decision. The EPA approved California's waiver to enforce what Carter describes as a "de facto ban" on gas-powered vehicles.

Carter criticized the current administration by stating, "The dangerously radical Biden-Harris administration is doubling down on its rush-to-green agenda that forces Americans to drive unaffordable, less reliable electric vehicles." He emphasized that market dynamics should be determined by consumers rather than governmental directives.

He also highlighted potential economic impacts of California's decision: "California’s de facto ban will have ripple effects throughout our economy," he noted. Carter further argued against centralized decision-making, asserting that it is inappropriate for "a few liberal elites to decide what vehicle is best for a family in my district of South Georgia."

The statement underscores ongoing debates regarding environmental policies and their implications for different regions across the United States.
