FOIA Request Sent to Stephens County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Stephens County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.

The request specifically seeks information about the methods being used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. If manual counting is being employed, we have also asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals, we are eligible for a fee waiver.

We await a response from the Stephens County Election Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about this and other important local government matters.
