FOIA Request to Union County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was made to the Union County Election Department and seeks detailed information about their ballot counting methods for the upcoming election.

Specifically, we are interested in learning about the different methods being employed by the department to count votes. If manual counting is being used, we have requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as a media organization, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request. We eagerly await a response from the Union County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.

As always, we remain committed to delivering timely and accurate news coverage on all matters concerning local government affairs.
