Enrollment in Dawson County School District increased over previous year

The only school district in Dawson County had rising enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 3,758 students in the halls of Dawson County School District, 1.9% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Dawson County bucked the state's trend compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 82% of the Dawson County School District's total enrollment.

Dawson County School District has a main office in Dawsonville and is the only school district within Dawson County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
