Georgia State Representative Will Wade stated that while freedom of speech allows individuals to express anti-American sentiments such as "Death to America," those who do so "have an obligation to leave" the country rather than staying and being "lazy" and hypocritical. Wade made his statement in a May 2 post on X.

"For all those American Citizens and/or VISA holders that scream and yell “Death to America," said Wade. "Yes you have freedom of speech. You also have an obligation to leave otherwise you are simply a lazy hypocrite. I pray you see the error of this ridiculous behavior and if you are committed to hating America- I implore you to put your money where your mouth is and buy a one way ticket to a different country."

According to Fox News, the slogan "Death to America" has become more prevalent among anti-Israel protestors nationwide. Following a Hamas attack on Israel in October, these protests have rapidly spread, adopting a strong anti-American sentiment. Experts attribute this trend to a decline in support for Israel among prominent Democrats.

The chant "Death to America" originates from the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, during which 52 Americans were held captive at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran for 444 days. According to the House Foreign Affairs Committee GOP, it remains significant in Tehran, where the regime commemorates the Embassy takeover and other key revolutionary events with these chants.

Representative Wade served as Chairman of the Dawson County Board of Education for 15 years, leading the county to become one of Georgia's first system-wide charter school systems. In his first term in the Georgia State House, Wade supported legislation on school choice, law enforcement pay raises, tax cuts, and anti-human trafficking measures. He represents Georgia’s 9th State House District and has focused on education and public safety, according to his State House webpage.
