Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, a representative from Georgia, has successfully secured $1.75 million in federal funding to expand Effingham County’s water and sewer infrastructure. The funding, obtained as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Department of Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, will be dedicated to a project aimed at enhancing the pumping capacity of Hodgeville Road Lift Station No. 4 by constructing 26,000 feet of 18-inch force main to cater to additional development needs. This initiative comes in response to the current 12-inch force main's incapacity to handle the projected future wastewater flows.

Expressing his satisfaction with the funding allocation, Rep. Carter stated, “I’m proud to support this critical funding for Effingham County, which has one of the fastest growth rates in the State of Georgia. With the announcement of several large economic development projects in our district, this funding will ensure that both current and future Effingham County residents have their water and sewer needs met.”

Effingham County Board of Commissioners Chairman Wesley Corbitt also expressed gratitude for the funding, highlighting the importance of the project in meeting the county's growing needs. Chairman Corbitt emphasized, “This appropriation will be a major boost to our efforts to continue a high-level quality of sewer service for Effingham County’s current residents and businesses, as well as those who come here in the future. We are very appreciative of Congressman Carter for recognizing our need and securing an additional funding source for it. The project is truly vital. It will nearly double the capacity of our force main line.”

The expansion of Effingham County’s water and sewer infrastructure is poised to significantly benefit both existing residents and businesses, as well as accommodate the anticipated growth in the region. Rep. Carter's successful advocacy for this funding underscores the commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs in the community.
