Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) has successfully secured $2.71 million for the Georgia Department of Transportation to alleviate traffic congestion between the City of Savannah and Liberty County. This funding comes as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

"This bypass will significantly reduce traffic in Liberty County, which is a major concern for residents. I am proud to represent a district that is continuing to grow and attract economic development projects, and this funding will ensure that our roads can support the increased demand," stated Rep. Carter.

The funding will be allocated towards the Liberty County SR 38 Bypass project, which involves the construction of a two-lane new roadway south of Walthourville in Liberty County. Donald Lovette, Liberty County Commission Chairman, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal partners in making this infrastructure improvement possible.

"I commend our local, state and federal partners in their efforts to make this much-needed and soon-to-be-celebrated infrastructure improvement in Liberty County. Its completion will greatly benefit the move of traffic around Hinesville. Especially as we accommodate the influx of commercial projects who covet locations on our major thoroughfare, Highway 84," said Lovette.

Liberty County Administrator Joey Brown also acknowledged the contributions of Representative Carter, along with Senators Warnock and Ossoff, in securing funding for this vital project. Brown highlighted the significance of the completed roadway in enhancing the movement of freight and passenger traffic in the region.

"Once complete, the roadway will enhance the movement of freight and passenger traffic in the region," Brown affirmed.
