In a heartwarming gesture to show appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices of first responders, Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) delivered valentine's cards to first responders in all fifteen First District counties. This initiative is part of his third annual Friends of the First campaign, which aims to acknowledge and honor the dedicated individuals who keep the district safe.
Rep. Carter received an overwhelming response this year, with over 700 valentine's cards pouring in from various schools across the First District. The cards were contributed by students from Patterson Elementary School, CB Greer Elementary School, Golden Isles Elementary School, Sterling Elementary School, and Oglethorpe Point Elementary School. Speaking about this outpouring of support, Rep. Carter expressed his gratitude, stating, "It's an important and special way for schoolchildren to show their appreciation for local heroes."
Recognizing the selfless and noble work of first responders, Rep. Carter emphasized their dedication and the risks they face daily. He remarked, "Firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, and EMTs put their lives on the line to protect ours. I can think of no more noble, courageous, and selfless responsibility to take on. These people do more for their community in one shift than most people do in a lifetime. I and our District are so grateful for their service."
The impact of Rep. Carter's gesture was not lost on the recipients. Sheriff Mark Melton of Appling County expressed his appreciation, saying, "As Sheriff of Appling County, I am thrilled that Congressman Buddy Carter understands the importance of our first responders and seeks ways to show his support. Thanks, Congressman, for your concern for our people."
The valentine's card deliveries spanned across the First District, reaching various first responder departments. Some of the stops included the Chatham County Emergency Services, Appling County Sheriff's Department, Bacon County Hospital, Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department, Richmond Hill Police Department, Charlton County Sheriff's Office, Hinesville Fire Department, Ludowici Police Department, McIntosh County Emergency Services, Blackshear Fire Department, Ware County Fire Department, Jesup Police Department, Jesup Fire Department, Wayne County EMA, and Glynn County 911 Call Center.
The Friends of the First campaign serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting and recognizing the tireless efforts of our first responders. Through the simple act of delivering valentine's cards, Rep. Carter and the participating schools have shown their gratitude and respect for these local heroes. In a world that often focuses on the negative, campaigns like this remind us of the positive impact we can make by expressing our appreciation for those who selflessly serve our communities.
