Today we sent the mayor back to class! Mayor JoAnne Taylor spent the morning reading with 2nd and 3rd grade students from Lumpkin County Elementary School. The city's enthusiasm for getting children excited about reading spurs from a much larger state initiative powered by Georgia City Solutions (GCS), a nonprofit arm of the Georgia Municipal Association. This group has actually started the Mayor's Reading Club, and many students across the state have enjoyed reading time with their local officials! The Managing Director of Georgia City Solutions, Kay Love, said in an article from GMA: “It is a topic that has become very important to cities, not just from an educational standpoint, but also an economic and workforce development standpoint.” Thank you to Lumpkin County Elementary School for coordinating such a fun morning!
