Join us on March 20th at Bourbon Street Grille to learn about the magic behind the magic at Walt Disney World. How do they create the environments of the park and at what cost to the natural environment?

Mr. William Hightower, lecturer of history at University of North Georgia, will give his talk, "A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow: Disney, Nature, and Progress" at 7:00 on Monday March 20th. All ages welcome for this fascinating talk.

Here's a summary of the talk:
The Magic Kingdom theme park was a second draft of Disneyland in California. Walt Disney was disturbed at what developed around Disneyland and wanted to have greater control over the area around the new park. The idea of controlling nature is central to the Disney way of things. The manipulation and alteration of the physical environment necessary to create Walt Disney World is fundamental to the idea of Disney Magic. This talk will explore many of the alterations to the physical environment made on Disney property as well as the relationship those alterations have to ideas of nature and place as presented in the parks.
