Habersham County sends condolences to the family of former Tallulah Falls Fire Chief Melvin Smith

Habersham County extends its condolences to the family of former Fire Chief Melvin Smith, 83, of Tallulah Falls.

Smith was a founding member of Tallulah Falls Volunteer Fire Department in 1972 and served for more than 40 years in many roles, including fire chief and chaplain.

He was a dedicated recreation department baseball and football coach in the 1970s and 1980s and was Coach of the Year in 1974.

He faithfully served for more than five decades at Shirley Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member and deacon.

 Chief Smith died February 23, 2023.
