Position Announcement: Finance and Administrative Services Director

The City seeks the best qualified candidate to be a key part of our dynamic, friendly, and hard-working team as an integral member of our senior staff.

Practical and relevant financial administration experience, professionalism and good people skills are needed to help our City Manager be informed and efficient, manage internal service functions, mentor and support staff, and deliver value to the community.  Your primary role would be to oversee finance and administrative functions under the City Manager’s direction and assist with major capital projects and initiatives of the city.  The City’s Finances are in good order and the City has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the last ten years.

Position Description

Dahlonega is a full service county-seat community with a $10.6 million operating budget,  50 full-time employees and $20 million capital improvement program over the next five years.  It is home to the University of North Georgia. The City provides all general government services with the exception of fire and recreation.  Water/Sewer, Sanitation and Stormwater Services are also provided and operate as Enterprise Funds.  The City has an award-wining Main Street program as part of its Downtown Development Authority for which financial services are provided by the City.

Candidate Requirements

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or related field and 5 years or more of progressively responsible management and financial experience.  Local government finance experience is required.  A CPA/MBA with Local Finance Officer certification is preferred.  Pluses would include IT experience and/or six Sigma type training.

Responsibilities

The position requires experience in compiling financial statements (CAFR), budget forecasting and presentation, planning & directing daily operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, utility billing, budget compliance, cash management, debt management, grants management, and capital financing.  The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning and continuous quality improvement of finance programs and activities.  The position is appointed by and reports to the City Manager.
