Press Release 10/10/2022

We’re happy to announce some good news for our community.  We appreciate the leadership of Chairman Chris Dockery and all our Lumpkin County colleagues in proposing to keep the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) at the same distribution percentage that it’s been since the inception of the program in 1988.  The County and City have partnered on several projects this year, including the placement of restrooms at the Reservoir picnic area, many joint proclamations recognizing achievements and distinguished persons in our community, and jointly approving a Transportation Special Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) distribution percentage which will help fund needed interchange improvements at Auraria Road, Rt 9, and Torrington Dr.

On Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, the City Council voted to approve the historic split of 75% County, 25% City and directed the Mayor to sign and submit required documents to the Department of Revenue.  LOST provides a benefit to all in our community since it is used by local governments to reduce dependence on property taxes. The funds gathered by this sales tax may be used for direct property tax reduction or for supporting services provided by local governments.

Better Together: Lumpkin County and Dahlonega!
