BRENAU UNIVERSITY: Tutoring, accessibility services restructured to better serve students

School

Brenau University issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

Tutoring at Brenau University’s historic Gainesville campus will look a little different starting this semester with the creation of the Center for Academic Success.

Changes have been made to streamline services formerly offered in various locations to provide the most beneficial support for students, according to Didi Cassell, Brenau’s executive director of academic initiatives and student success.

“Our goals are to create greater accessibility and strengthen our institutional tutoring services to provide direct support in every major discipline,” said Cassell. “As we restructure operations, the Center for Academic Success will become a stable support system to help all students, regardless of program level, discipline, or campus get the tools and methods needed to excel academically and earn their degree.”

Professional and peer tutoring and academic coaching now will be offered in one on-campus location, as well as virtually. The new center, located in the former Math SPA building on Spring Street on Brenau’s historic campus, features an inviting study space and private tutoring rooms.

Tutoring services formerly offered through the Math SPA will also be housed under the Center for Academic Success. Tutoring offered at the Writing Center in Brenau’s Trustee Library will remain in place.

Additionally, the Learning Center has been renamed the Office of Accessibility Services and its tutoring services will be moved to  the Center for Academic Success. Accessibility Services will remain the point of contact for students who need academic accommodations and individualized support for disabilities and learning differences. It also provides ADA training and a peer support network for students.

Jennifer Wilson Loggins remains the director of the Office of Accessibility Services, and Lisa Christopher has been promoted to coordinator of tutoring services at the Center for Academic Success. Both offices will work together closely.
