Atrium Health Navicent issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.
Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin and the Navicent Health Foundation are pleased to announce that four college students pursuing degrees in healthcare fields have been presented the 13th annual Samuel M. Goodrich, M.D. Endowed Healthcare Scholarship.
Scholarship recipients were as follows:
· Dalton Chase Loyd, Mercer University
· Audie Clark, University of Louisville
· Maddie Allen, Georgia College & State University
· Kara Allyn Kelsey, Mercer University
The scholarship, named in honor of long-time Milledgeville OB/GYN Dr. Sam Goodrich, was established in 2008 to assist students going into the healthcare field. Since its inception, 57 students have received scholarships.
“The Navicent Health Foundation considers it a privilege to manage the Samuel M. Goodrich Scholarship Fund. We are so appreciative of Ms. Ellen Goodrich and the committee that reviews and awards the scholarships each year. We congratulate this year’s recipients and wish them a successful school year,” said Navicent Health Foundation CEO Ellen Johnson.
Dr. Goodrich took great pride in being able to bring the most current advances in his medical specialty to the Milledgeville community. In his nearly 40-year practice he delivered thousands of babies and cared for all of his patients with a deep commitment and concern for their well-being.
He lost a brief battle with pancreatic cancer in 2008. It is in his spirit of generosity, his belief in the physician/healthcare professional-patient relationship, his desire to see the best and the brightest enter healthcare professions and as an honor to his legacy that the scholarship is endowed and administered.
