BRENAU UNIVERSITY: Brenau University receives national best workplace recognition for sixth time

Award

Brenau University issued the following announcement on Sept. 14.

For the sixth time, Brenau University was recognized this week as one of the best higher education institutions to work for in the United States.

Brenau was among about 70 universities and colleges listed in ModernThink’s 2021 Great Colleges to Work For rankings. The university also earned honor roll status for the second time, excelling in six out of 10 recognition categories, including mission and pride; supervisor/department chair effectiveness; confidence in senior leadership; faculty and staff well-being; shared governance; and diversity, inclusion and belonging.

Now in its 14th year, the Great Colleges to Work For survey is one of the largest and most comprehensive workplace studies in higher education. Brenau was one of the 196 institutions that participated in 2021 and one of the 42 on the honor roll, which will be highlighted in a special insert in The Chronicle of Higher Education on Sept. 17.

“I am proud to say that Brenau University is a great institution for which to work because it values each member of its diverse community and encourages personal and professional development that impacts the lives of our employees and our students,” said Brenau President Anne Skleder. “Through our distinctive caring culture for all at the university, paired with our forward-looking expansion of educational offerings to meet changing needs, Brenau understands that the entire community is best served by supporting, affirming and helping to transform the individual.”

ModernThink, a strategic organizational development and management consulting firm focused on workplace excellence, founded the workplace survey-based Great Colleges to Work For program in partnership with The Chronicle of Higher Education in 2008. ModernThink served as the survey, research and analysis engine for the program for 11 years before assuming full responsibility in 2019.

ModernThink has surveyed over 1,000 colleges and universities. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was based on employee feedback from surveys administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.

“We work hard to make Brenau a great place to work,” said Kelley Maddox, associate vice president for human resources. “Being on this list and being named an honor roll institution shows that Brenau is committed to excellence.”

Lu Ann Williamson, executive administrative assistant, has worked for Brenau for 16 years and said the administration strives to maintain a close-knit atmosphere.

“During my time at Brenau, I have met the nicest people and feel I have been well taken care of as an employee,” Williamson said. “I am very pleased Brenau is receiving this much deserved recognition.”
