Saint Mary's Health Care System issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.
Today, St. Mary’s bids a fond farewell to Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Titus Gambrell. Titus is retiring after 42 years in health care, including 8 years here at St. Mary’s. In his time here, he served as regional director of case management, bed control/transfer center, and clinical education before accepting the CNO post. But that only scratches the surface.
He has taken his spot in a dunking booth to bring smiles to our colleagues. He brought the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence to St. Mary’s. He sang, “You are the Wind Beneath My Wings” to uplift his nursing colleagues during the early days of the pandemic. He grew a magnificent beard. He never failed to root for UGA – unless they were playing his alma mater, Alabama. But most importantly, he built a strong leadership team to support high-quality nursing care across our entire system.
Nelson Henderson once said, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” Titus has planted an entire grove here at St. Mary’s. We could not be more grateful.
Blessings, sir, and may you thrive in the next chapter of your life.
