Cherokee County GA issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.
Cherokee Veterans Park hosted over 150 attendees from various parks and recreation departments for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s Maintenance and Operations Field Day on Aug. 11.
This annual event serves as an opportunity for parks staff to network with colleagues from across the state during this one-day learning and demonstration meeting.
“This is the largest gathering of the year for local parks and recreation maintenance personnel,” said Cherokee Recreation and Parks Director Jay Worley.
Staff members from Cherokee Recreation and Parks organized the event which included secured sponsors, vendors and class instructors. Several staff members also had the opportunity to teach classes where they are subject matter experts.
Classes for this year’s event included; natural and artificial turf maintenance, irrigation troubleshooting, chain saw safety, tree planting and pruning, trail maintenance, playground safety and pond maintenance, etc. Continuing Education Units were available for some classes.
“I want to thank my staff for their hard work in organizing this event,” said Worley. “This success of this event continues to highlight Cherokee County’s position as a leader in the field of recreation and parks.”
