City of Union issued the following announcement on Aug. 2.
Mayor and Council are pleased to announce their first site specific art and creative placemaking initiative. The project will establish a grid across multiple locations showcasing fiberglass trains, each individually hand painted. Themes of community vitality, resilience, and connection will be explored and presented through each piece. The City is conducting a call for artists beginning Monday, August 2, 2021.
Each train represents a journey we can all take together. The art will symbolize the collective power of community and the City’s push for progress in terms of community vibrancy, inclusion, and sustainable growth while highlighting its rich history.
Painted trains will be strategically placed throughout Mayors’ Park, City Hall, and the newly remodeled Kenneth L. Johnson Depot. A name plate of participants will be placed with the respective train. The public arts program offers residents and local artists a wonderful opportunity to showcase their love for Union City through creative expression. Additionally, it speaks to the City’s mission to reimagine public spaces through community involvement.
