Cherokee County GA recently issued the following announcement.
A familiar face in Cherokee County has been tapped to lead the county’s Community Development Agency, a position that was left vacant following Geoff Morton’s appointment as County Manager.
Brantley Day began his new role July 29 and brings more than 20 years of municipal planning and community development management experience.
“Being selected as the next Community Development Agency Director is an incredible honor. I am excited and thrilled to be joining the outstanding Cherokee County team,” Day said. “In my service with Woodstock and Holly Springs, we’ve collaborated over the years. I’m looking forward to us working together to continue to meet and address the challenges of growth pressure, infrastructure needs, and service delivery to continue to have the high quality of life that we enjoy today. As a county resident for nearly 20 years, I’m thankful to have this opportunity to contribute and join the fantastic team at Cherokee County.”
The Cherokee County Community Development Agency Director is responsible for overseeing Planning and Zoning, Stormwater Management, Public Works, Building Inspections, Roadway/SPLOST and Engineering. Morton said he was looking for a qualified individual to take over the role who would be able to work with county and city officials, as well as county residents, to oversee the growth and planning in the county.
“Brantley’s resume speaks for itself. He has expansive knowledge and experience in the community development field. He also has built good relationships with other city, regional and state officials,” Morton said. “I look forward to working with Brantley in his new role and seeing him put his knowledge and experience to work for Cherokee County.”
Day has served as the Community Development Director for cities of Woodstock and Holly Springs, as well as the Director of Operations for the Cumberland Community Improvement District. In that role, he managed and delivered a portfolio of capital transportation and community projects to leverage the maximum return on the investment for commercial property taxpayers. His career began in Riverdale as an intern and was later appointed as the city’s first city planning. In only two years, he became Riverdale’s first Community Development Director. Day holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, both from the University of Georgia. He is credentialed as a certified city planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) of the American Planning Association. He and his family reside in Cherokee County.
As Day starts his tenure with Cherokee County, some additional changes are being made to the Community Development Agency. Stormwater Manager Ben Morgan is assuming the role of county engineer responsible for stormwater engineering, development inspection, NPDES and arborist. Former Engineering Manager Brett Buchanan is now the county’s transportation director and is responsible for transportation engineering, traffic operations and public works.
