Cost of college went up for all students at the University of North Georgia

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.1 percent for 2018-19 at the University of North Georgia, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Georgia residents paid $4,692 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $271 more than the $4,421 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 188 percent more than residents this year, or $13,514. Their price tag grew 5.3 percent from $12,834 in 2017-18.

About 96 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Georgia residents. About 2 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,915 students received grants or scholarships totaling $16.1 million and 1,106 students took out student loans totaling more than $5.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (19,722), 12,484 students used grants or scholarships totaling $62 million, and 5,977 students took out $33 million in federal student loans.
