NORTHEAST GEORGIA MEDICAL CENTER: NGMC’s Cancer Services Earns National Accreditation Renewal

Northeast Georgia Medical Center issued the following announcement on May 31.

Cancer patients in the community have yet another reason to trust the care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC).

In addition to providing patients throughout northeast Georgia with comprehensive cancer care through a multidisciplinary team of specialists, advanced treatment options and access to national research and clinical trials, NGMC’s Cancer Services recently received renewed accreditation by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) – a designation NGMC has maintained since 1958.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the ACS, renewed NGMC’s three-year accreditation after an in-depth review and on-site survey of the program. Qualifying cancer programs like NGMC must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care to receive accreditation.

“This recognition illustrates NGMC’s deep-rooted commitment to our community and cancer patients,” says Charles Nash III, MD, medical director of NGMC’s Cancer Services. “It’s further proof that patients don’t have to travel outside of northeast Georgia for top-quality, nationally recognized cancer care.”

NGMC offers a full range of cancer services including cancer prevention and screening; early diagnosis; cancer staging; advanced treatment through medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgery; patient navigation; rehabilitation; and both palliative and end-of-life care.

NGMC’s expert physicians and clinical staff care for approximately 3,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year through access points in Braselton, Gainesville, Toccoa and Winder.
