Reports from the Georgia Department of Education show Banks County Middle School enrolled 77 Hispanic students for the 2024-25 school year, a decrease of 1.3% compared to the prior year.
Total enrollment at Banks County Middle School reached 642 students for 2024-25. Hispanic students accounted for 12% of the population, making them the second largest demographic at the school.
The campus is part of the Banks County School District, which is headquartered in Homer.
Of the four schools within the district, Banks County High School saw the highest Hispanic student enrollment with 129 students for the 2024-25 school year.
Georgia’s public schools served more than 1.7 million students, based on the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Enrollment by level included 787,206 students in elementary grades (45.9%), 388,733 in middle school (22.7%), and 539,092 in high school (31.4%).
The Georgia Department of Education reported that chronic absenteeism continued to present a significant challenge after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024. To address this, GaDOE rolled out a statewide effort featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a campaign to raise awareness, and support targeted to high-need districts as part of strategies to improve attendance rates.
In 2025, Georgia’s legislature approved changes to school attendance laws forbidding expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The legislation also introduces additional reporting and aligns with new pathways allowing students to earn diplomas through alternative programs.
Georgia recorded an average student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 14:1 as of 2026, according to education data, which is lower than the national average of 15:1.
