Higher student enrollment in Dawson County School District, differing from the state’s trend

The only school district in Dawson County had rising enrollment in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 4,231 students enrolled in Dawson County School District, 5.5% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Dawson County increased, bucking the statewide downward trend.

Of all students enrolled in the 2024-25 school year, 51% were male, and 49% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 75% of the district’s total enrollment.

Dawson County School District has a main office in Dawsonville and is the only school district within Dawson County.

More than 1.7 million students were enrolled in Georgia’s public schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Enrollment was highest in elementary grades, with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle school with 388,733 students (22.7%), and high school with 539,092 students (31.4%).

As of 2026, Georgia had an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 14:1, which is better than the national average of 15:1.
