FOIA Request to Stephens County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our continued commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Stephens County Election Department.

The request seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate’s first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; and all contact information including address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
