FOIA Request to Lumpkin County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In a move to promote transparency and accountability in the upcoming elections, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Lumpkin County Election Department. The request, dated February 5, 2025, seeks comprehensive details about all candidates running for office in the forthcoming elections.

As part of our commitment to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have asked for information including each candidate’s full name, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction, and party affiliation. In addition to these basic details, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we feel it is within our rights to request this information without any associated fees.

Our goal is not only to keep the public informed but also ensure that our democratic processes remain open and transparent. We await a positive response from the Lumpkin County Election Department as we continue our work in delivering reliable news coverage on local government affairs.
