FOIA Request to Hart County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The requested information includes candidates’ first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of the candidate; and contact information such as address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver.

We will continue to keep you updated as we gather more information about this year’s election candidates.
