FOIA Request to Franklin County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Franklin County Election Department.

The request is for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The details we are seeking include the candidate’s first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation of the candidate.

In addition to these details, we have also requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await response from the Franklin County Election Department regarding this request.
