FOIA Request to Dawson County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for records pertaining to the upcoming election in Dawson County.

Specifically, we have requested a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. This list should include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

In addition to this information, we have also requested contact details for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We look forward to working with the Dawson County Election Department in obtaining this information and will continue our efforts in providing accurate and timely news coverage on local governmental affairs.
