FOIA Request to Banks County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Spring Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Georgia Mountain News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Banks County Election Department. The request seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The requested records include full names of the candidates (first, middle, and last), the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation of each candidate. We have also asked for complete contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
