WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) have put forth a resolution to designate April 16th as FairTax Day, following Tax Day on April 15th. The resolution aims to bring attention to the FairTax Act, a bill designed to overhaul the current tax system in the United States.

Rep. Carter emphasized the benefits of the FairTax Act, stating, “Americans spend over six billion hours per year filing their taxes. Instead of putting your hard-earned dollars straight into Uncle Sam’s pocket, the FairTax allows you to keep 100% of your paycheck and choose how much you pay in taxes every year. It is a simple, fair, and preferred alternative to the current system, which punishes success and puts unelected bureaucrats in charge of your paycheck.”

In support of the resolution, Rep. Clyde highlighted the potential economic advantages of the FairTax, saying, “The FairTax would not only create a simplified and fair tax code for all Americans but would also foster economic prosperity and eliminate the need for the IRS, which has become weaponized.”

The FairTax Act, initially introduced to Congress in 1999 by former Georgia Congressman John Linder, proposes a national consumption tax to replace the existing tax code. This legislation aims to eliminate various taxes, including personal and corporate income taxes, the death tax, gift taxes, and the payroll tax, ultimately doing away with the IRS.

The proponents of the FairTax believe that this new tax system would be pro-growth, allowing individuals to retain all their earnings. They argue that it is a straightforward, efficient, and equitable approach to taxation that promotes economic growth and fairness for all taxpayers.
